Moving up on the East side

The Federal dollars are being put to use, and in my opinion, it is being used in the right place. The Booker T Washington apartments on the East side of Austin have received 3.1 million dollars from the federal stimulus so that the apartments can be renovated. New stoves, paint jobs and ceiling fans will fix up the apartments so that the people living in them can be better accommodated. It is safe to say that the tenants living in the complex do not make a lot of money and may use assistance in living there, but that does that mean that they should have to live poor because they cannot afford what others can. With the renovations already in motion hope that Booker T will look more like a nice apartment complex and not like "projects" as they were once referred to. It’s nice to see that the east side is starting to look better and more cohesive to the rest of Austin. With small changes like this over a large amount of time it will be interesting how the east side may look 10 years from now, and who will be living there. My fear is that once the dollars start to move into the east side community and they start to redo houses and complexes that the rent will increase and the light bill will increase because of all the things that they are putting into the homes. Then what will happen to the people living there? They will have to move out somewhere else, probably back into a rundown place and so now they are back to where they started. It is bad to think like this but it is reality, and I wonder is this the governments way of running out the black and Hispanics out of east Austin, forcing them to relocate? Or is the government really trying to put the Federal money to work, and help the east Austin community.
